Dysfunctional Teams?
January 31, 2007
I have read this really neat book. The author is Patrick Lencioni. Here are some quotations that I found quite insightful. “The fact remains that teams because they are made up of imperfect human beings, are inherently dysfunctional.”(vii) Onew wonders when you begin to read that he is going to go against conventional wisdom that tems are good. But his point is just the opposite. The pyramid of dysfunctional teams presented by Patrick Lencioni describes a new way not only to think about businesses but also faculties.
His definition of politics. “Politics is when people choose their words and actions based on how they want others to react rather than based on what they really think.” (88) He also construes “trust” in a helpful fashion. “[T]rust is the confidence among team members that their peers’ intentions are good, and that there is no reason to be protective or careful around the group.” (195)
